ABOUT THE COURT
The Court is a state authority that performs justice in the Republic of Lithuania.
Šiauliai District Court is a court of general jurisdiction dealing with civil and criminal cases and cases of administrative offense. Judges of the Court perform the functions of the pre-trial investigation judge as well as other functions in accordance with the competence assigned to the District Court by Law.
District Court is the first instance court that deals with:
- Civil cases falling within its competence by the Law;
- Criminal cases falling within its competence by the Law;
- Cases of administrative offence falling within its competence by the Law;
- Cases related to the enforcement of decisions and judgments.
In the cases provided by Law, the judges of the District Court perform the functions of the pre-trial investigation judge as well as other functions assigned to the jurisdiction of the District Court.
The functional purpose of the Court is to implement justice. This is achieved when the Court (a Judge), in the course of proceedings, adopts a procedural document which restores justice or restores legal peace between the parties in civil relations, awards a punishment for a crime, or appoints a penalty for an administrative offence.
The validity and lawfulness of the decisions passed by Šiauliai District Court as a first instance court in the criminal and civil cases, and the cases of administrative offence, regarding the procedure of appeal, are reviewed by Šiauliai Regional Court.
The domain of Šiauliai District Court activities covers such territories as Šiauliai City Municipality, Šiauliai District Municipality, Joniškis District Municipality, Kelmė District Municipality, Pakruojis District Municipality, Radviliškis District Municipality and Raseiniai District Municipality.
